Upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 Today

Last May, PC World rated Internet Explorer 6 as one of the 25 Worst Tech Products of All Time. It was placed in the number 8 position in this list.
Internet Explorer started late in the web browser scene. Netscape was king in 1996 when the first version of Internet Explorer was released. By the end of 1996, IE had a 3.8% market share and peaked at 96% in 2002. Its been in a steady decline since then, mainly due to its #1 competitor: Mozilla Firefox.
Internet Explorer 6 is plagued with serious security problems. Many spyware, adware, and computer viruses on the Internet exploit bugs and flaws in IE’s architecture. In some instances, all that you have to do is view a web page to compromise security.
On top of all of this, Microsoft has historically been slow to react to security issues with IE. The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team urged PC users in June 2004 to use any web browser other than IE due to the risks.
While its a good idea to stop using Internet Explorer 6, its not a good idea to uninstall it. There are many programs that use HTML Help that work best with IE. So if you still would like to use Internet Explorer, then upgrade to version 7.
You should upgrade your IE to version 7 even if you don’t use it for web browsing. Everyone uses Windows Explorer but many do not realize that it can also be used to view web sites. Enter a URL in the address bar and watch what happens. The web browser is none other than Internet Explorer.
Microsoft has learned from the many complaints and bad publicity it received with IE6. The security has been improved and features that other web browsers had were added, such as tabbed browsing, RSS feeds, and the ability to use multiple search engines.
Is Internet Explorer a better browser than Firefox or Opera? It all depends really on personal preference. Don’t condemn Microsoft because of IE6. Every software company had problems with applications they produced. Microsoft at least listened to its users and gave them what they wanted.
It will be interesting to see Internet Explorer’s market share now. The decline was a result of new and more secure web browsers going up against it. Today those are no longer issues. I predict that IE will once again have an overwhelming market share due to the mighty Microsoft marketing machine. Microsoft has the money and resources that its competitors simply do not have.
