I hear a great deal of complaints from people that their business web site gets very little traffic. They wonder why their site with no useful content has only 50 visitors a month. Everyone wants to be #1 in a Google search, but this happens after lots of work is spent on the site or money is spent on advertising.

One way to drive traffic to a web site is to associate it with a blog. A blog that is updated frequently will rise very quickly in search engine rankings as the number of reciprocal links to it increase.

You can get more reciprocal links by submitting articles to social networking sites (i.e. digg.com, netscape.com) and other blogs and forums. Make sure the sites you post to allow you to include a URL back to your own web site so that you can get a reciprocal link. This is also good for people who are interested in what you have said and want to read more on your web site.

The blog should be a topic related to the business so you can attract potential customers that may be interested in what you have for sale. Your business is built by establishing relationships and trust with people. The community you create with your blog will be biased in favour of any sales pitch you present them.

It’s people that drive your business and you need to gain their trust and confidience. The sales will soon follow.
