One of the most important rules bloggers are told is to post daily on their blog. The reason for this is that it will create readers who will regularly frequent your blog and it increases traffic. The interesting thing is that those who insist on daily blogging are either professional bloggers, or they have their own business and can afford to spend an hour or two a day researching and writing a blog post. The average person with a job and family doesn’t have that much time to spare for blogging.

1. Traffic is generated by participating in the community; not daily posting
2. Traffic is irrelevant to your blog’s success anyway
3. Loyal readers coming back daily to check your posts is so Web 1.0
4. Frequent posting is actually starting to have a negative impact on loyalty
5. Frequent posting keeps key senior executives and thought leaders out of the blogosphere
6. Frequent posting drives poor content quality
7. Frequent posting threatens the credibility of the blogosphere
8. Frequent posting will push corporate bloggers into the hands of PR agencies
9. Frequent posting creates the equivalent of a blogging landfill
10. I love my family too much

The Stress of Daily Blogging

A point which rings true is that daily posting puts tremendous stress on bloggers. Its like the pressure an honour roll student has to maintain their academic excellence. This kind of stress leads them to post garbage just for the sake of having their daily post. You’ll find on many blogs much irrelevant content being published. Sometimes, guest bloggers are brought in to keep the daily content flowing. I should note that guest blogging does have value when it contributes to the theme of the blog. Its better to publish 3 high quality, well researched posts every week than nonsense everyday.

Daily blogging is easier if you are self-employed. Having a full-time job and a family takes a great deal of your time. If you decide do post once daily, or two or three times, you probably won’t have much time for anything else. Neglecting your family and friends in order to blog is not a good way to spend your time.

One way to post more frequently is to purchase a PDA, such as a Palm Pilot or a PocketPC. You’ll be surprised how often you can write for your blog during the many idle times that occur throughout your day.
