Dreamweaver 8 Losing FTP Settings
Posted by Johan Cyprich on 16 Oct 2007 | Tagged as: How To
If you upgraded your web browser to Internet Explorer 7, Dreamweaver 8 will no longer save FTP settings for the web site definitions. I’ve had this problem for some time now but haven’t been annoyed enough to do anything about it until today.
The solution for this is very simple. All that you need to do is download the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater. Its just a 9.33 MB file for Windows and 18.351 MB for Mac (size depends on language used). After installing it, the FTP settings will be maintained after you quit Dreamweaver and use it again.
Another less likely reason for Dreamweaver not saving FTP settings could be a problem with registry. Adobe published guidelines on how to fix it, but editing registry settings should be done with great care since Windows or other installed applications can be damaged.

I’ve been having this problem with Dreamweaver as well. Unfortunatley updating to 8.0.2 is not an acceptable solution. This version of Dreamweaver builds asp recordsets in a different manner. It vastly slows down my development time and gives me issues when trying to build inserts for large forms.
After trying to submit a large form I get this error “[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Invalid string or buffer length” and the best solution I could find to fix it is to use an older version of Dreamweaver.
I thought upgrading to Internet Explorer 8 would solve the problem, but I did and the problem is continuing.

Later versions of Dreamweaver may work better. Have you tried the Visual Web Developer Express Edition?
