Dealing with Comment Spam

Posted by Johan Cyprich on 19 Dec 2007 | Tagged as: General

I’m amazed by the number of spam comments that get through Akismet’s filters. While it catches most of the spam, I’m still manually deleting comments that were successfully posted each day.

I’ve turned on an option that requires a user to have a previously approved comment before their comment gets posted. This will also require people to login first before commenting. The site doesn’t require a login to use, however, every post and comment can be read regardless of login status.

This should stop comment spam until I think of a better solution.
