Coming Soon: WordPress 2.5

The WordPress team is planning on releasing version 2.5 of their blogging software in March. What happened to 2.4? That version was supposed to be released on January 24, but they weren’t able to finish all of the features they set out to. So, they decided to skip 2.4 and release 2.5 with all of the new features.

Upcoming changes include a new minimum version requirement for PHP. WordPress will require version 4.3 or later. Its unfortunate that they haven’t rewritten the software to take advantage of PHP 5’s enhanced functionality.

They are also redesigning the administration section and making a widget-based dashboard.
