WordPress 2.5 Is Here

The much anticipated WordPress 2.5 was released two days ago. I’ve been trying to find the time to make the upgrade since its quite an effort making upgrades on this blog. I have to backup the WordPress files and database which takes about 30 minutes. Its always a good idea to make these backups in case the upgrade breaks your theme or plugins and you need to restore your previous installation.
The upgrade went very smoothly and everything seems to be working. Many people are calling this a major upgrade, but it really is a minor one. The change from 2.3 to 2.5 is minor. Bug fixes are indicated by another decimal number, i.e. 2.33. The major upgrade will be when version 3.0 is released.
The user interface has changed and it is more intuitive, but it will take some time getting used to since I’ve been using the previous interface for the last 2 years. The new features in the software include one-click plugin upgrades, multi-file upload, integrated photo galleries and a media library, a WYSIWYG editor that doesn’t alter your source code, full-screen post editing, and a search which can scan both posts and pages. You can also customize the dashboard with your own widgets.
You can read more about yje new features in the WordPress Blog.
The advantage of using WordPress is that it has a very large community base. There were 1.92 million downloads for the 2.3 series of the software. This is one one of the most powerful and easy to use blogging applications available.
I recommend that you upgrade your WordPress to 2.5 or if your not using WordPress, install it on your server. For those not comfortable with installing PHP applications, you can have installed for you by the Install4Free team.
Download WordPress 2.5 today.
