Joomla 1.5.9 Upgrades

Posted by Johan Cyprich on 11 Mar 2009 | Tagged as: How To

The version 1.5.9 security release for Joomla was released on January 10th of this year. This updated fixes one high priority and one low priority issue found in the CMS. The high priority bug fix was to prevent an attacker from viewing directory trees on the server hosting your web site. You can read about the fixes on the release notes page.

I’ve upgrade four of my web sites from versions 1.5.6 and 1.5.7 to the latest version of Joomla. All of the themes and extensions work without problems in the new version. Its always a good idea to backup your web site and database before you do any kind of upgrade, so that you can revert to the previous version if problems are found.

I’ve written a custom PHP application to do these backups and will eventually release it as a free and open source application. The release will be announced on this blog.
