Open source software receives a great deal of attention, but is it taking away sales from its commercial counterparts? Software sales were poor from 2000 to 2006, but sales in 2007 in the US were totaled at $3.3 billion. This does not include game software. Sales in 2007 were 15% higher than those in 2006.

Most blogs make very little, if any, money. John Chow began his blog on September 2006 and made $352.94 in his first month. The revenues from it in December 2007 were $25,040.36. He has an eCPM of $102.56, which is how much money the web site makes for every 1000 page views.
